Overview
The Fabrizio Bianchi collection breaks the traditional laws of Italian wine designation in order to illustrate the full potential of Tuscan vineyards. His constant pursuit of quality led to the creation of the Fabrizio Bianchi Collection in 1974. Fabrizio believes his 70 hectare (172 acre) winery to have a strong emphasis on single vineyard expressions. From this philosophy, he created the Fabrizio Bianchi Collection with three wines: Sangioveto Grosso, Chardonnay and a Sangioveto Rosato.
The History
In 1974 Fabrizio created the Fabrizio Bianchi Sangioveto Grosso wine from the Vigna di Scanni vineyard, which was planted in 1968. A table wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, Fabrizio Bianchi Sangioveto Grosso helped improve the reputation of Sangiovese grapes in Tuscany. He wanted to produce an IGT wine from his Sangiovese Grosso (the same clone as Brunello) vineyard to help elevate the image of Sangiovese in Chianti Classico.
In 1974, the winery began to experiment in order to produce a Tuscan white wine worthy of the name of the company. The Valdigallo vineyard was planted and would subsequently produce the Fabrizio Bianchi Chardonnay, a wine with plenty of personality on account of its rich minerality and robust acidity, which made it suitable for length aging processes. The first vintage of the Chardonnay was in 1990.
The most recent addition to the Fabrizio Bianchi Collection was the Rosato. This wine was create in 2009. It is not produced using the saignée method, but through a short grape maceration period, the rosato is produced from the youngest Sangiovese grapes. The wine has a good structure and a surprising ability to age.
All three wines have been selected to be bottled in a Burgundian shaped which also attests to the dissenting spirit of Fabrizio Bianchi.
